Castle Hill Revisited
The Pub: The Golden Cock, Farnley Tyas, HD4 6UD
Meet: 10.15 for 10.30.
There are various ways to reach the pub, but if you are using the M606 and M62 then it might pay to come off at junction 25 and take the A62 towards Huddersfield but then turn left at the set of traffic lights by the Rocar Moores Land Rover garage. Take the first right and follow the road that goes behind Syngenta/ICI to Waterloo. Take the A629 towards Kirkburton for about 2 miles then turn right at Woodsome Road past Woodsome Hall Golf Club. Continue up this road until you reach Farnley Tyas. This way avoids Huddersfield town centre and lots of traffic lights.
Please park at the bottom of the car park.
The Walk: I thought it was time to tackle Castle Hill again before it is too late. This will be a shorter version of the one we did in 1997 and we will not be going up or down those steps. However it will be more challenging than last year's stroll down the canal. There are one or two undulations. We set off down the scenic Farnley valley before we climb steadily up to Castle Hill for the excellent views over Huddersfield and the surrounding area. The return starts off downhill and then is fairly level until a short climb to finish.
Lunch: A good selection of beers, Black Sheep Copper Dragon and others. Good quality hot meals and sandwiches. If having a full meal there is a special 2 dine for £12.99 menu which caters for a wide range of tastes, so pair up if you can. We will order before we set off.
