Honley, & Oldfield
Wednesday 27th July 2016
Time: 10:15 for 10:30
Parking: Old Turnpike Honley HD9 6PD
(NB The pub doesn't have a car park).
TheWalk: A return visit to Honley and the Jacob's Well. Clockwise this time and a slightly shorter version of the one we did back in 2003. Approximately 4-5 miles without any steep climbs, except for the steps back up to your car! Easy walking through fields towards the hamlet of Oldfield and then back down through woods and alongside Mag Brook and the river Holme. Hopefully there will be extensive views of the Holme and Mag Valleys, and of course Castle Hill.
Lunch: A fairly traditional menu, but good quality food and good sandwiches. A Thwaites pub with a selection of guest beers.
Route: From the ring road in Huddersfield take the A616 Sheffield / Holmfirth road for about 4 miles. At first set of traffic lights in Honley, by the Texaco garage, take the right fork for Holmfirth - A6024. Less than 100 yards further on at the next set of traffic lights turn right, (the pub is about 50 yards ahead on the right). Cross the bridge over the river and turn immediate left up the Old Turnpike. Park about halfway up the hill near the public footpath sign which leads down some steps to the pub. We will order before we set off. Location map
