LOW MOOR, OAKENSHAW & WOODLANDS
Low Moor gives the impression of being heavily industrial but Ian knows where the green and pleasant bits are! Yes we did start out in the rain - again ! But there was a bit of an improvement in the weather as the walk progressed.
Approx. 4 — 4.5 miles — some road walking, but mostly on decent
paths. Includes part of the Spen Valley Greenway. An industrial
area with a surprising amount of green areas. There are no steep
hills but a gradual rise from Woodlands back up to Low Moor.
The Royal, Wooler Road, off New Works Road, Low Moor
BD12 ORR — real ale and great food.
From the M62, Jct 26, take the Bradford Road to Low Moor (not
the M606). Past Cleckheaton Golf Club, through Oakenshaw and
up the hill. Over the railway bridge and turn immediately left on
to new Works Road (opposite The George and Black Horse public
houses). Pass the new Low Moor station and follow New Works
Road to the mini roundabout. The Royal pub is on the left hand
side and there is plenty of parking.
From the A641 Huddersfield or Bradford. Turn onto New Works
Road just before the Harold Club. The Royal is just before the mini
roundabout on the right.
