Wednesday 27th September

A Ramble from Dunkirk around Gunthwaite,

Broad Oak and Nether End

10.15 am (for 10.30 am) at The Dunkirk, Denby Dale,

Huddersfield, HD8 8TX.

From Bradford you may wish to travel via Brighouse, Bradley (turn left) Colne Bridge (turn right at the Royal and Ancient) along Dalton Bank road to Waterloo then A629 to Sovereign Inn crossroads, then turn left along A635 towards Barnsley (bear right approaching Denby Dale). After the viaduct the Dunkirk is about 1 mile at the top of the rise.

From Sheffield, M1 to jcn 37, A 628 to Silkstone, turn right to Cawthorne then left on A635 for about three miles. The Dunkirk is on the right.

The Car Park is 100 yards past the pub along Dry Hill Lane.Click for Walk Location map

The Walk:

An approx four mile walk through country lanes and field and woodland paths. The route crosses several small valleys so there are some gentle slopes but nothing long or steep. A few stiles to negotiate but all reasonable. En route we pass Gunthwaite Medieval Barn ( I think Dennis took us past there some years ago) pass the ancient Broad Oak and along a woodland path towards Nether End before returning to The Dunkirk.

The Pub:

The Dunkirk was 'resurrected' last year by a community effort and is now a thriving Real Ale pub. The pub web site is here . On the web site is the menu as well as the beer details. You may find it interesting to read the 'Renovation' page.

We will order lunch at the start as usual.
